AUTO-PILOT'S MANUAL: III. THE HIJACKER

THE HIJACKER is an 'old hand' at this game. His other names are DEVIL, EGO, BEAST, PAST, DEATH and so on. He himself does not use these names. HIS BASIC TRICK IS DEADLY AND SIMPLE. Since the craft has been built to obey the Signature word 'I', he simply forges the Signature 'I'.

Following is a list of the watermarks of the forgery:
1. What do 'I' get out of this journey? What for? What use? are his questions.

2. " 'I' want", is his trade mark: I want to be a doctor, rich man, great yogi. Never does he say 'I want to learn how to be a doctor or a yogi.
3. He is always acting in 'others interests'. Never for his own sake. 'I will kill myself for your sake.' What he means is he is willing to smash his craft to get his own way.

4. He is always acting on 'general principles'. If you ask him for a glass of water, he says 'I can give you, but what if everybody keeps asking me for water - so as a matter of principle I must refuse'.

5. He is always 'seeking' for something or the other. He has no time to see.

6. "IF' is best bet:
'if this port was cooler
'if this road was less bumpy'
'if I had more petrol'
'if the other pilots were not so rash'
'If I had been wise'

7. He is never 'Here and Now'. Always he is acting and talking as if he somewhere else, some other time.

8. He is never concerned with the welfare of his craft or its control. He is never in the control room. In fact, the more difficulties he gets into, the further away he moves from the control room in search of solutions. All answers for the difficulties of the craft are in the control room - but he is not interested in the solution of his difficulties. His interest is to spread as much disturbance as possible and make profit out of the chaos.

9. The Devil's fun is to point to the Devils in other crafts.

10. His happiness is full of conditions. Since his conditions can never be met by a constantly changing world, he is always frustrated and he mercilessly drives the craft in search of these 'illusory conditions' for his happiness.

11. He pretends that 'his interest' and the interests of the craft are identical - but every one of his actions is designed to destroy the craft.

12. Incapacity for genuine laughter. He is deadly serious about everything, as if the world will fall apart if he relaxes a bit.

13. HIS FOOD IS MISERY - His craft's and others'. The presence or awareness of the feelings or expression of frustration, anger, depression, jealousy, misery, remorse, fear, are a definite evidence of the Hijacker's presence. All, you, the pilot, have to do is to Stick to the Highway CODE.

Express LOVE, ONENESS, JOY or SILENCE: Hijacker will perish or move away for mere lack of food, for if the only food have is LOVE or JOY, the Hijacker will have to change his diet or die. Be kind to the Devil and give him plenty of JOY and LOVE for you have only that to give.
